Scouting sustainably
Respect for the environment and nature is a core part of scouting. The Scout ideals encourage us to “love and protect the environment” and to “feel one’s responsibility and to take action.” Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important in society, and the Scouts have responded to this. In 2025, Tavastin Liljat was awarded the Kestävästi partiossa (“Scouting sustainably”) badge of recognition, developed jointly by The Guides and Scouts of Finland and WWF. This badge is granted to Scout groups that meet criteria based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These criteria relate to areas such as energy consumption, recycling, nature and environmental education, environmentally friendly food, low-emission travel, equipment procurement, and accessibility.
